About Stackgrade and How We Review Apps

Short answer

Stackgrade is an editorial team that compares Shopify apps across marketing, loyalty, pricing and shipping categories (currently store credit, gift cards, product badges, delivery dates and member pricing), scoring each out of 100 with published checks. The team also builds some of the ranked apps, which we disclose on every ranking, comparison and review, and we say when another option is better.

Stackgrade exists to answer one question well: which Shopify app fits this job, and what does it really cost. Merchants ask it as "best X app", "X vs Y" and "alternatives to X". We answer with tables, scores and plain verdicts.

What we cover

Store credit apps, gift card apps, product badge apps, delivery date apps and member pricing apps, plus hands-on reviews and guides.

How we review

Disclosure. Stackgrade is built by a team that also makes Shopify apps: Bulk Store Credit, Bulk Gift Cards, Product Badges, Arrively and Members Win. Our scoring rules treat those apps like every other app, and a rival can come out ahead. In our October 2026 rankings, Labeler leads product badges, Estimated Delivery Date & ETA leads delivery dates and SparkLayer leads member pricing, ahead of our apps.

What we weigh. The methodology lists every check. In short:

  • Price, including percentage fees. Flat plans, per-order fees and percentage of value fees are separated.
  • Free plan limits. What the free plan actually lets you do, in rows, cards, views or orders.
  • Bulk capability. Can you act on hundreds of customers or cards at once.
  • Code export. For gift cards, whether full codes can be exported and for how long.
  • Multi-currency. Whether currencies and redemption rules are stated.
  • Shopify-native data. Whether the app uses Shopify's own store credit or gift card records.
  • Support. We quote review complaints with their month. We do not score support.
  • Reviews. Only App Store ratings and counts, as of October 2026. We never publish our own star ratings.

What we do not do. We do not invent ratings, merchant quotes or case studies. Where a fact is not on a listing, we say it is not stated. Where native Shopify is enough, we say so.
